Lost Souls Swimming In A Fishbowl
As we ate and drank our not so cold San Mig Strong Ice, I wondered if it was alright to ask them to play the song stuck in my head. I didn't write on the table napkin and handed out the title of the song since I ASSUMED that they didn't know the song. My assumption was SO WRONG because a few moments later I heard the guy strumming the intro chords of the song.
I wanted to weep...
I assumed not a lot of people in this part of the world knew this quite popular song... I forgot that they, the musical couple, must know it since the band was from their generation. I don't know a lot of people my age who have heard this song or have heard of this great band. Maybe my assumption against my peers are wrong but I know very, very few people who do know this song...
So you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell?
Blue skies from pain?
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish
How I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
What have we found?
The same old fears
Wish you were here

A Remarkable Man

Ninoy came from a family involved with political heavyweights which may have influenced him to become the youngest municipal mayor at 22 and as the youngest governor of the country at 27. When he was 29 Ninoy became the governor of Tarlac and by the time he reached 34 he made history by becoming the youngest elected senator in the country.
Ninoy was so vocal about his views towards the Marcos regime and pointed out the wrongdoings done by the president and his cronies. When Martial Law was declared on September 21, 1972 Ninoy was among the first ones to be arrested and imprisoned on fabricated charges of illegal possession of firearms, subversion, and murder.
In April of 1975 Ninoy stated that he was going on a hunger strike as a protest to the injustices of his military trial. During his hunger strike Ninoy relied on salt tablets, amino acids, sodium bicarbonate and two glasses of water every day. Ninoy lost 60 pounds off his original weight yet managed to keep himself Alive.
On November 25, 1977 the government-controlled Military Commission No. 2 found Ninoy guilty of all the charges against him and was sentenced to death by firing squad. Ninoy and many other people especially his family and supporters knew that Marcos would not let Ninoy suffer a death that would make him into a martyr.
In 1978 Ninoy was allowed to take part in the elections for Parliament and urged his supporters to organize and run 21 candidates in Metro Manila. All the candidates of his political party LABAN lost due to widespread election fraud.
In March 1980 Ninoy suffered a heart attach which could have been triggered by his 7 years in prison mostly in a solitary cell. He was taken to the Philippine Heart Centered and suffered from a second heart attack. The doctors did not want to perform a coronary bypass on Ninoy because they did not want to be involved in a controversy and Ninoy himself did not want to be operated on by local doctors for the fear that there may be foul play.
The first lady Imelda Marcos made a visit to Ninoy in May 1980 and asked him if he would like to leave for the United States that evening but he has to agree on two things that if he leaves he will return; and while in the US he should not speak ill against the Marcos regime. Ninoy and his family then flew off to the US.
It was in a hospital in Dallas, Texas that Ninoy was operated on and he made quick recovery. He broke his "pact" with the Marcoses and did what he wanted to do, he spoke out! Years lated Ninoy decided to go back to the Philippines, fully aware of the dangers that awaited him.
On August 21, 1983 Ninoy was shot in the head upon his descent from the plane on the Manila International Airport which is now named after him as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
"The Filipino is worth dying for."
Ninoy may be known to most people nowadays as the guy on the 500 Peso bill, as the father of Kris Aquino, the late husband of then President Cory Aquino, etc., etc....
But who was Ninoy and what did he do to inspire people to stand up against oppression?
Honestly I am not a big Ninoy fan unlike some people I know who call him a hero. True he can be called a hero in his own right but I'm sorry I am not that convinced with labeling.
Then why did I make this post?
I find Ninoy a remarkable man. Without his intelligence and sarcasm against the oppressors, he would not have caused a stir in society and the people of the nation may have remained deaf and mute towards the reality that there was no freedom during that sad era of Philippine history.
Was/Is Ninoy's death worth it? At that time it might have been worth it, democracy had been "restored"...but if you ask me if his martyrdom 25 years ago still has an impact on our current state, I don't know, I can't speak for myself.
In my humble opinion, we need another hero to "save" us from this ugly spell we are all in. Even though we try so damn hard to live our lives as honestly and as conscientiously as we can, there are people in higher positions either in the government or in the private sector who exploit us.
We are all Filipinos yet we exploit each other...and some of our "trusted" leaders even sell us out to people from other parts of the world, allowing them to exploit our resources either the natural ones, or labor...cheap labor...tsk tskk...
So where am I heading with this post? Hmm... I don't really know... There's no conclusion yet because the sad sorry state our country experienced during Martial Law is still being experienced nowadays...in more discreet yet more morbid ways...
Bottom line:
If Ninoy were still alive today and saw the changes he wanted for our nation, he would have become a grandfather playing with his grandchildren, a father who have guided his children well, a husband who went through challenges with his wife, a man who would have made the Philippines a better place to live...
Since the guy died too early, and had no chance to fulfill my what-if list, I just wish him to rest in peace.
Happy birthday old guy!

I had been given too many I don't know which is which...
It's like I've been given more options and I've got to use my free will...
What if I choose the ones which might lead me to doom?

Speed

Went to Kart Zone here in Cebu earlier this evening and went karting... well yeah that's me... and I realized once again that I should be banned to drive. My foot is quite heavy on the gas pedal. Maybe I'll run over someone... Hahahaha!
Well it was fun and my sister and cousins got addicted with the adrenalin rush and had more laps. I quit because I got frustrated with my so-called driving skills. Tsk tsk...

Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
The ending of Monty Python's Life of Brian
Now let me share to you the lyrics of the song sung by actor Eric Idle and the crucified people in Life of Brian. Well before I copy and paste the lyrics, let me tell you that this movie is hilarious and it is a good ol' laugh I can tolerate. The spoof is about a guy who was mistaken for The Messiah. My favorite Beatle George Harrison was the executive producer of the movie. I bet ultra religious people might not find this movie or clip funny but I tell you, they didn't badmouth Jesus. Well, not directly...
"However, after an early brain-storming stage, and despite being non-believers, they (the producers/Monty Python people) agreed that Jesus was "definitely a good guy" and found nothing to mock in his actual teachings: "He's not particularly funny, what he's saying isn't mockable, it's very decent stuff..." said Idle later. After settling on the name Brian for their new protagonist, one idea considered was that of "the 13th disciple". The focus eventually shifted to a separate individual born at a similar time and location, who would be mistaken for the Messiah, but had no desire to be followed as such."
Here are the the lyrics and I hope you will sing-along with the clip!
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle.
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And....
Always look on the bright side of life, (whistle)
Always look on the light side of life, (whistle)
If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life. (whistle)
Come on...
Always look on the bright side of life...
For life is quite absurd,
And death's the final word,
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin,
Give the audience a grin,
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.
So always look on the bright side of death,
Just before you draw your terminal breath,
Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it,
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And always look on the bright side of life,
Always look on the right side of life,
Come on guys, cheer up.
Always look on the bright side of life.
Worse things happen at sea, you know.
Always look on the bright side of life.
I mean - what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing,
you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!

300
No, I am not going to write about that epic movie because I am such a loser I haven't seen the whole film.
Why 300? Three freaking hundred because it is such a small number to somebody who is used to grandiose Cecil B DeMille stuff.
300 PhP can buy you a cell phone prepaid card which can last less than 300 minutes.
300 steps a day is never enough to get your blood to circulate properly.
300 pages of a book can tell a really interesting story or a boring, hanging one.
300 SMS a day when you subscribe to unlimited text is so freaking...LUGI...
300 blinks can be done normally within 15 minutes.
300 words are not enough for me to express myself in a quality article.
I know that it is not in the number of words we can equate the quality of the articles we write either in blog posts or in other areas. Sometimes a single word can express the crux of the situation yet sometimes less is not really more.
Last weekend my friend said that in advertising or promotions, less words and powerful ones create more impact since people would not bother to read the small text in an ad. He got his point.
However, in an article which is supposed to be informative and interesting, do you think 300 words is enough? I dunno, I must be such a damned complaining bitch but I don't think that's enough. Why set limitations to articles which people can learn a lot from? Why risk quality with less expression?
I don't know.
Maybe it's about time to delete my Cecil B DeMille fantasies from my ADHD otherwise "talkative" fingers which are possessed with demons once they get themselves on a computer keyboard.
I don't know.
Pardon me for all my expletives, sarcasm, and stupidity.
I just like complaining today.
No more bad posts or complaints in the future I promise. :D
Then maybe I might break my promise... >:-D

Pure Genius
If you do not recognize the face of this person, most likely you have just entered the atmosphere of the Earth! Yes the picture is not serious, it is even kind of weird to see such an old guy sticking out his tongue like that. But then the guy is a genius, an influential international figure, ergo, he can do anything he wants (or wanted...R.I.P.).Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist. He is popular for his theory of relativity and mass-energy equivalence which is expressed as E = mc2. This guy received the 1921 Nobel Prize for physics and was one of the most remarkable people who have walked the planet.
Einstein was the personification of pure intellect. He is proclaimed by a lot of people to be the genius among geniuses because in his musings he discovered that the universe was not as it seemed.
I can go on ranting about this venerated man but that might take up too much of my space and time. However, I want to share quotes which are attributed to this really cool and super smart guy.
A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.
All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree.
All that is valuable in human society depends upon the opportunity for development accorded the individual.
An empty stomach is not a good political adviser.
Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.
Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.
Anyone who doesn't take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either.
Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish.
Few are those who see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts.
God always takes the simplest way.
He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice.
I am a deeply religious nonbeliever - this is a somewhat new kind of religion.
I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.
Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.
My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.
Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.
Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.
The devil has put a penalty on all things we enjoy in life. Either we suffer in health or we suffer in soul or we get fat.
The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible.
The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.
There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle; you can live as if everything is a miracle.
True religion is real living; living with all one's soul, with all one's goodness and righteousness.
Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character.
You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.
This one is my favorite:
A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

We're All Connected
You HAVE TO PRESS PLAY and listen to this song!
The very first time I've heard this song was when I was in grade school more than a decade ago...errr...but I am not that old yet... Hahaha!
Anyway, since then I've learned to love listening to Joey Ayala because his songs touch the core of the soul and express what has been, is still going on, and what is about to happen to man, the country, and the world.
I love this particular song since it speaks of how we are all connected not just with nature and the environment but also with each other. If we try to understand the song deeply, Joey already talked about environmental issues way back then...seems like none of us paid close attention since we are currently experiencing the dreaded climate change. It's unusually hot during the day and unusually cold at night. We experience dry spells during wet months and heavy rains during dry months. The usual climate patterns went nuts and even the meteorologists a.k.a. weathermen, have a hard time distinguishing what's going to happen next.
So what happens now? Playing the song is not enough. Talking about climate change in shows, forums and blogs is not enough. Donating money is not enough. Relying on people who only love talking about the issue and not doing their parts is never enough.
It has been said over and over that change begins within oneself. We are all aware that we are all connected and we should be constantly aware of that. I know you would not want to harm yourself... If you don't want something bad to happen to you, better not do anything which can harm others too. Yes, it's the same Golden Rule over and over and over again...
If you do not want the environment to harm you, better do your part in preserving it and nurturing it.
Every small thing you do counts.
Start by not throwing your candy wrappers just about anywhere... Stuff your garbage in your pockets instead when you can't find a garbage bin nearby and dispose of the garbage whenever you can do so properly.
Conserve water and energy. Close faucets tightly. Unplug unused appliances.
Don't smoke or use smoke-belching vehicles. You would not want to inhale bad air or do you?
Once or more in a week try commuting or riding a bike instead of driving your car. You can help minimize air pollution AND you can save money on gas.
Recycle. Make use of used stuff. You can create new stuff with old stuff. If you don't want your old clothes or things, donate them to people who can make use of them.
We may not be able stop the drastic changes in the environment but hey, let's not give up and throw in the towel. Just hope and pray that you will not reach a day in the future when you will regret that you never did a thing to help fight climate change.

Mind-Boggling Old News
___________________________________________________________________
The headline: NEW HAIR PRODUCT USES BULL SEMEN
It seems like a load of bull to see such a headline eh???
This then "new" hair stuff is made from bull's cum...yeah you read that right! The hairdresser in London who developed it got inspired by that "hair gel" scene from There's Something About Mary... If you haven't seen the movie yet...well...your hair will definitely stand on end when you see that scene! Hahaha!
The so-called £55 "product" is used for a 45-minute conditioning treatment and it is made from the semen of thoroughbred Aberdeen Angus bulls. It is guaranteed to make the hair shiny. Eeeyuck!
The hairdresser said that it is an "organic" treatment which doesn't leave a bad smell on the hair. 8-|

Hmmm...
Next time, when you go for a hair treatment in the salon, make sure what kind of product they use on your head...

It's All In The News
Whenever we watch, listen to, or read news in the Philippines, most of us cringe at the sights and/or sounds of ugly and indigestible stuff which make us lose our sanity or appetite for a moment…or sometimes for long periods of time…Who would want to have dinner while listening to endless rants about scams and while watching bloody accidents and killings???
Let's be thankful I suppose since it is not only in Pinas where weird stuff can be found… In other words, hindi lang mga Pinoy ang mga sira-ulong tao sa mundo!!! Errrrr…in English, what I meant to say is that Filipinos are not the only weird or insane people on this planet!!!
The following are some stuff you might find either interesting or stupid or both. You can click on the links to see their full stories.

The woman got pissed with her daughter because she kept coming in and out of the room. Out of nowhere she hit the girl in the face and wham she was arrested on the spot!

Beer Monks

Those green and brown stuff are empty beer bottles!!!
Who would have thought that Buddhist monks in Thailand’s Sisaket province will build a temple using a million beer bottles? The Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple and its crematorium and washrooms are built with the combination of Heineken (green) and Chang (brown) beer bottles.

Above Us Only Sky Part 2
This is quite an old photo of the moon I took a couple of years ago and I must say it still enchants me. Every full moon I go outside and take photographs of the moon yet this one still holds first place in my heart.
The moon is mysterious. It waxes and it wanes…sometimes it is visible though sometimes it is not but all along it is just there…

Above Us Only Sky

Who would not dream of bright skies? I love it when the weather is fine and the skies are blue but I would not mind some clouds flitting by to help me get on with my hide-and-seek game with the sun.
I love the sun. The sun is not just the center of our solar system but it is the center of most people’s lives. The sun gives life and energy to our planet and without it we’ll all suffer a dark and cold extinction.

Stuck

In The Middle Of Nowhere
3ft x 4ft
Oil on Canvas
The woman in the painting is stuck in the middle of nowhere...in a desert where no one is around. She looks like she's praying for something or someone to take her away from that barren place. A savior perhaps? God are you there? Is there a God?
I was once stuck in a confusing situation that was why I made that painting. The time I fixed it almost a couple of years later, I was also stuck in a similar situation.
I am posting this right now because I think I am stuck again...
In a barren land where there is no vegetation, no sign of life...
In a situation where I am not certain if there is a way out without having to suffer the tough conditions and consequences...
In a dilemma whether I should keep my feet on the ground or fly like the dust in the wind...
In the middle of nowhere...that's where my soul is...

Señor Pablo

Picasso already showed great skill as an artist at a young age and later on developed into a better artist. He studied art in Madrid and made his way to Paris which was then the art capital of Europe. He divided most of his time between Barcelona and Paris during the early part of the twentieth century.
Picasso's art has had several periods and most of his popular works have significant subjects either the people in his life or depictions of social and historic events. He was also known for having several lovers, a wife and four children.
Picasso's Guernica is considered to be one of his masterpieces and it is indeed a sight to behold!
Picasso lived his life in a way which was not the norm during his time. He had famous friends from various fields and he had Communist political views.
Picasso's last words were said to be: “Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can’t drink any more.”
Picasso was one of the brilliant men who walked the earth. His art has inspired a lot of people to break the barriers of classicism and helped paved the way for modern art.
I love this guy and his art!

Tomorrow Never Knows
Turn off your mind, relax
And float down stream
It is not dying
It is not dying
Yes it is not dying but it is delving into the unknown...
An unknown that will remain in that dark void unless light will be shed on it...
Confusion breeds too many dark spots...an infarction on the brain perhaps!
We'll never know...
I'll never know...

Tin Can Happy
I just bought it because my favorite boys are on it!!!
A Crappy Love Story
"What can you say about a twenty-five year old girl who died? That she was beautiful and brilliant. That she loved Mozart and Bach. The Beatles. And me."
That was the first line in the film Love Story and believe me it was such a sentimental old movie that I had the nerve to watch for the second time. I have seen it about four or five years ago but I watched it in between winks. The plot was simple: he’s a rich and smart jock who hailed from an aristocratic family while she’s a poor but super smart girl who made it to one of the top schools in the country. Anyway, I’m not patron of American culture since it’s not our culture but majority of us are trying to copy or assimilate it into our own. It’s not like the typical Pinoy story back then but some are trying to make their stories like this one.
Back to the so-called love story, well the star-crossed lovers met in a library where they were trying to outsmart each other with wits and arguments and from then on they were on each other’s nerves(???) and seemed to get along well even though they came from different social backgrounds.
Time passed and they eventually got married, to the chagrin of the guy’s father who severed ties with him and left him destitute. The girl’s dad however was cool, he even allowed his daughter to call him with his first name! The couple got married in a then- “weird” ceremony where they got married to each other by saying their vows in their own way and didn’t have a religious service combined with the ceremony. Cool huh? No religion…Imagine…
The guy went to law school while the gal worked her ass off and put her dreams on hold in order to provide for the both of them. When he finished law school he was one of the top graduates and eventually worked with a high-status firm and they became happy New Yorkers. The couple tried to procreate yet they couldn’t because the girl was sick as hell and was dying. Time came when the girl’s condition worsened and they could not afford the treatments anymore. The guy went to his father and asked for money but never told him the real reason what the money is for. The girl eventually died and when the guy’s rich father found out and could have helped them for better health care, it was too late.
Tragic? In a way it is if it were not a movie and if it happened in real life. However, there are way more tragic stories which have happened and are happening in the real world which are sort of similar to the movie. What draws attention to the story is how the both of them broke social barriers and stood up for what they really felt for each other. Too bad their story got cut short and never had the chance to bloom well…well that’s the point…it wouldn’t have caught the viewers’ attention if it was a happily-ever-after thingy.
The point of making this blog post? I wanted to write about it because the first line of the movie caught my attention…
I keep wondering if every girl who ever liked Mozart, Bach, and The Beatles will die young. I love those musicians…I got their CDs for proof! Thank goodness I am not beautiful and brilliant…those attributes would have cut my life short… Hahahaha!

My Halloween Pals
Having the antihistamine in my system and guzzling two really cold beers in a really cold mug non-stop got me dizzy and out of my mind for a while. I also said nasty things I normally never had the nerve to say when I'm high on water.
